Keep track of Link5G

The New York Dolls at NYC phone booths (1970s)
A Link5G pole in lower Manhattan (2023)

New York City — 32′ tall wireless communication towers are replacing the old payphones

These controversial poles will house multiple telecom antennas, 4G and 5G, as well as provide public WiFi.  While we are being told these colossal poles or ‘kiosks’ are needed to cross the digital divide, the neglected neighborhoods still have not received the last mile of proper wired access, and likely never will if we continue along this path.

There are several ways one can submit comments on the Linkk5G project.

One can become a consulting party through the New York State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). In this way one would be apprised right away of all the proposed installations in your district. Visit the SHPO Landing page to learn more about the process and how to become a consulting party:

The general public can view activity throughout the rest of the city (SHPO map) and comment here too. But comments can only be relevant to the historic nature of the site, and how the installation would affect the aesthetic and historic value of the buildings and surroundings.

Notices of proposed sites will also be posted in the NY Post for the general public to be able to comment on all related issues:

And one can also keep track on the NYC Open Data website:

Feedback on all aspects of the project can be given at Link5GFeedback@oti.nyc.gov

But remember to cc: your community board and your city council member and state representatives, and us too if possible at newyorkers4wiredtech@hushmail.com, so we can compile an overview of the city’s reaction to the project.

Please also keep in touch with your community board to see if there might be any activity or meetings planned on this project. We need to provide as much public comment as we can, so please do let us know and help us keep track as well!
